Weight Loss Tips For The Holidays
The holidays can be a tough time for people wanting to lose weight. Luckily, this article will explore the different tips and tricks to losing weight during the holidays and staying committed to your weight loss program.
Follow these simple guidelines and you will keep your waistline thin and your belly full!
One of the most effective tips for holiday weight loss is to bring your own dishes to dinners and parties. Providing your own healthy dish can be a great way to eat something you love while sticking with your diet.
Plan ahead and research different healthy recipes – try mashed cauliflower, broccoli casserole, or a healthy quiche!
When getting food, try sticking to small portions and loading up on the healthier items like carrots, broccoli, peas, and other vegetables. Don’t take meat larger than the palm of your hand, and limit yourself to only one helping. Leaving dinner satisfied instead of stuffed will definitely impact your weight loss in a positive way.
To combat hunger during dinners, it is always a good idea to snack on something beforehand. If you dinner is at 5, try having a healthy snack around 4:30, so you aren’t tempted to try the appetizers or other unhealthy dishes. When tempted, listen to your body and remind yourself of your goals in your head. Is one piece of pie worth an hour more of cardio?
Speaking of pie, try to skip dessert whenever possible. As one of the most tempting part of any meal, I fully understand why it may be hard to say no. If you absolutely must have some, try cutting your usual portion in half or bringing your own dessert (a low fat parfait for example).
The day after a big dinner, it may be a good idea to get an extra cardio session in. Burning more calories during the day means you can eat more of your favorite foods – use this as motivation during your training sessions! Also, try not to stress out about eating too much during the holidays.
If you have a cheat meal here and there and then get back on the exercise wagon after the holidays you will likely save yourself the stress of counting every little calorie during the break. Be patient and cut yourself some slack – the holidays are meant for enjoying and you should be able to enjoy them.
The most important tip for weight loss during the holidays is, however, to develop a plan of attack. If you know exactly how to deal with certain situations before being confronted with them, you will have a great deal of success!
Sit down and think about how you will deal with coworkers or family members pressuring you to eat, your favorite appetizer or dessert being offered, or the temptation to go back for more during dinner. Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail.
Hopefully keeping these simple tips and tricks in your mind during the holiday season will allow you to stick with your weight loss program as well as enjoy your holidays!
